- The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)
has said that the restructuring report
cannot be made available to the public at the moment
- The party said the report has to pass
relevant organs before it can be publicised
- It reiterates that it is the only party that
has restructuring in its manifesto
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will receive the final report of its panel on true federalism, after inputs from relevant organs of the party before the details of the report can be made
available to the public.
The national publicity secretary of the
party, Bolaji Abdullahi, said this in an
interview with Punch in Abuja, on
Friday, February 2.
Abdullahi explained that the
restructuring committee would have to
first submit the report to the party’s
national working committee for
necessary input before presenting the
details to the public.
He said that this was part of the party’s
commitment to transparency and
accountability.
According to Abdullahi, it is after normal
processes and procedures have been
followed that a final copy would be
submitted to the president for further
action.
He added that the report would finally
be handed over to President Buhari,
being the leader of the party, for final
vetting.
The party’s spokesperson also explained that the document had components for executive action as well as others meant for the legislature to act upon.
He said each arm of government would
play its role in the implementation of the
final recommendations.
“It is after the national working
committee has acted on the document and make the necessary input, that it will be sent to the national executive council which will also deliberate on it and make an input before it gets to the President who is the leader of the party for final vetting,” Abdullahi said.
He added that it is only the ruling party
that is genuinely interested in
restructuring the country.
“Only the APC has restructuring as an
item in its manifesto,” he said.
NAIJ.com previously reported that former president Goodluck Jonathan stated that the sincere implementation of the report of the restructuring committee of the APC will move Nigeria forward.
The ex-president made his comments
when a delegation led by the governor of
Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson, visited
him on Thursday, February 1.
Jonathan stated that during the 2014
national conference, most of the issues
deliberated upon by the APC committee
were addressed.
However, he commended the ruling party’s committee for looking into the grey areas of the 2014 conference.
He said that the implementation of the
report would encourage peaceful co-
existence among ethnic groups.
